The Virgin Gives the Scapular to St. Simon Stock

The banner presents the scapular as it is worn by lay people under their garments. It is known as the "Brown Scapular." Brown cord or ribbon connects two cloth squares that hang on the chest and back. One square will have an image of the Virgin, sometimes with St. Simon Stock; the other presents some such promise as "Whosoever dies clothed in this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire."
Other images of the Virgin's giving the scapular portray the larger scapular that Carmelite Friars wear over their other garments.
